    Historic Name: 825 Raleigh

  • General Information

Description: Originally subdivided from one of the oldest homesites, the house was positioned on the highest elevation to preserve the many mature elm trees and wooded property. When eventually completed in 1956, the home did not conform to the prevailing midwest regional trends. According to earlier sources, the original owner, Merton York was an executive who was transferred from Connecticut, and wanted to replicate his New England roots. The architect (Joseph McGrath) adapted and designed a unique colonial hybrid, e.g. larger and taller windows, which has been faithfully enhanced in recent years.
