Description: Designed in 1937 by the architect P. Gerhardt, this is a distinctive example of the modernist International style popular in the 1930's. The features, e.g. the round entrance windows, could also be related to Art Moderne. (Granacki) This is a rather unique example in the brick construction includes horizontal course detail. Yet it retains the characteristic flat roof, asymmetrical geometric massing and balanced window arrangement. Windows were generally used in groups to express a visual effect, and here the pairings are visible at corners of the original structure. The more recent porch enclosure can be considered to be complementary in accentuating the asymmetrical aspects -- including the transition to the vertical casement window treatment in this picture.
